Chai Time.

What’s your favorite time of day?

There are multiple activities that I thoroughly enjoy doing during the course of the day. They are part of my daily routine and somehow I feel incomplete or restless if they are not executed well.

But the one that I enjoy the most is drinking my morning cuppa tea with my spouse.

After sending off my seven year to school, I start preparaing our tea. This begins with choosing special herbs from my kitchen garden, preparing the right concoction after meticulously measuring milk, water, sugar, tea leaves and my special ingredient 2 cloves to make the perfect morning tea.

The tea simmers for a couple of minutes on low flame with the magical ingredient of divine hymns playing in the background adding its special flavor and touch.

I pour the hot piping tea in our cups, place it on the tray along with our favorite biscuits and call out to hubby dearest, who joins me in our balcony to drink tea. I wait to see his facial expression after taking his first sip, if he closes his eyes and takes another sip that indicates its delicious and if he reaches out for a biscuit after a sip that means, something is missing.

We read the newspaper, sip our tea, hear the rhythmic sounds of the chirping birds, admire the beauty of the leaves and colours of the flowers blossomed in the pots that lay in front of us.

The 30 minutes that we spend with each other, we sometimes speak and sometimes don’t. At times we share our worries, or things we are excited about.

Strangely, this is how my husband feels too. Often, at night before hitting the sack, he tells me, I’m looking forward to my tea in the morning. Its our time together and we feel most connected. This is our idea of romance, simple and comfortable with one another.
