While I was growing up, I witnessed many barbaric incidents that took place in my country, especially my city that had a deep impact on me and the country. Mumbai, being the financial capital of the country had always been a soft target for terror attacks; be it the blasts in early 90’s, or the serial train blasts in 2006 or the 26/11 terror attack. Each of them devastating and extremely grotesque in nature. The horrifying experiences that millions of Mumbaikars and I went through are unexplainable. Recalling these events, the helplessness and fear of losing a loved one send shivers down my spine.
But during these adversities, we came across several stories of valor, ordinary men and women showing exemplary courage and brotherhood, helping out several people and families impacted by these gruesome attacks.
However, the historical event that I closely followed was the Kargil war in 1999 that lasted over 2 months. My father in law, who was part of the war, often tells stories of acts of fortitude shown by the men and women of our defense services. We won the war with due to their masterful skills, our Indian Defense Service heroes reclaimed the area that had been occupied by the infiltrators. Unfortunately, several hundred combatants were killed on each side during the conflict. Kargil war was a very difficult time, a crisis situation that arose a feeling of patriotism, and unity among every Indian. I salute the armed forces heroes and their family members for their service and sacrifice. God bless them.
I personally do not endorse any acts of violence and I’m saddened by its brutality. Deeply, I hope and pray that we learn to live amongst each other in harmony.
